Our Vestry meeting opened at 7pm with prayer by Father Tom and a devotion by Jerry Thompson from the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. On a motion by Gene Scarborough and second by Chester Field the minutes of September’s meeting were approved. The Treasurer’s report was given by Joann Riley and was approved on motion by Chester Field and second by Gene Scarborough.it was noted that the Parish House cleanout is scheduled for October 15 at 9am.
A motion by Rita Lupton and second by Connie Barnes; Resolved, that the Eutawville New Hope Center (New Hope) will use space in the Community
Youth Center for their ministry and that a sub-committee from the Vestry will aid in the transition. New Hope will pay a monthly rent of $200 and will also
provide cleaning service. There was vigorous discussion about the history and background of the Youth Center as well as New Hope. Also much was discussed concerning the future use of the building and it is the desire of the Vestry to maintain and increase our outreach into the community by use of this building. The vestry was in agreement that no one should be kicked out of the building. This motion passed with one abstention. On motion from John Vergere and second by Jerry Dufresne, the name of the Community Center will be changed to Epiphany Outreach Center and all were in favor.
While on the topic of property we had a discussion about the condition of the roofs of our buildings and whether we had a parishioner to rent the Schimpf House, and Father Tom will contact the parishioner. Father Tom will also speak with Lynda from the Parish House Tea Room concerning her business and the Vestry’s concern about the amount of rent we get for the property.
Our final item of business was the discussion for next year’s budget that was presented by Connie Barnes. Questions about the increase to the total income and how it might be attained were discussed and fundraisers were suggested. Joann Riley assured us that we do not spend money we do not have and that our expenses for the current year are below our income. Connie will send the budget around to the Vestry members via email after some minor adjustments and we will vote electronically. After the vote we will notify Joann Riley with the final approved draft.
We then joined hands and prayed the Lord’s Prayer and on motion by Chester Field and second by Jerry Dufresne and with all in agreement the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.
