Vestry Minutes October 13, 2011
Fr Tom opened the meeting with prayer and Gene Scarborough brought a devotion based on the reading from ‘Our Daily Bread’.
George Carpenter gave a report to the Vestry about the Brotherhood of St Andrew’s and its history and work here at The Church of the Epiphany. Their major projects of service are; Pancake supper, New Hope Crisis center, Hebron Grace, Eutawville Youth Center, and Kairos Prison Ministry.
Our minutes from September were approved on motion from Chester Field and second by Robert Shingler.
JoAnne Riley, our treasurer, gave her report and explained the carry forward method used by the diocese and our reporting practices. On motion by Bill Hall and second by Chester Field the report was approved and accepted.
Mary Warner picked up the check for the Youth Center from the Swamp Fox Boat Club and reported to us about the gift. Vicki Sheedy said that she would be doing the Prayers of the People on October 30, in light of the installation of new members to the Daughters of the King at the morning service.
The Vestry then discussed potential new vestry members. The vestry will offer several names to the congregation at our annual meeting December 4, 2011, possibly; Jerry Dufresne, Keith Martin, Rita Lupton, Connie Barnes, and Chester Field.
Chester Field reported a theft from our storage unit of an electric sign and his intention to follow up with replacement costs to forward to the insurance company.
Fr Tom reported on the clergy meeting with our Bishop on the previous Tuesday. There have been serious charges leveled against our Bishop concerning abandonment of the Episcopal Church and our Bishop has called for prayer, specifically for wisdom, clarity, conviction, and courage. Many of the accusations against our Bishop also apply to the standing committee and the convention of the Diocese, as well as any who voted in favor or the several resolutions that were passed at the last three conventions. These resolutions were passed in an attempt to give our Diocese room to stay in the Episcopal Church but seem to have been interpreted to mean our leaving the Church. Pray needs to be the order of the day for us and the Diocese.
We joined hands and prayed the Lord’s Prayer and dismissed at 8:10pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Vestry, The Church of the Epiphany
