Vestry Minutes November 10, 2011
Fr Tom opened our meeting with prayer and John Vergere lead us in a devotion focused on Matthew 22:32-40, stressing that as God is love, our relationships to him and to each other as most important.
Ms. Barbara Spearin reported on the many activities of the Episcopal Church Women, and their call to be of service to the Rector and the Vestry through various projects.
Our minutes from the October meeting were approved on motion from Gene Scarborough and second by Chester Field.
The Treasurer’s report, given by JoAnne Riley, was approved on motion by Gene Scarborough and second by Robert Shingler.
The proposed budget for 2012 was discussed and approved on motion from Robert Shingler and second by Chester Field. It was stated that although we have not received many pledge forms, the proposed budget was in line with our current income and expenses, and it was also stated that we will not spend money we don’t have.
Potential vestry members who have been asked to serve and agreed to serve if elected are, Rita Lupton, Connie Barnes, Jerry Dufresne, and Chester Field. Ann and Gerald Smith filled out the time and talent form and also offered their services for vestry.
JoAnne Riley recalled to our attention that the contracts for services need to be signed before the end of the year.
On motion by Robert Shingler and second by John Vergere and approved, the housing allowing for Fr Tom was set at $24,000 for 2012. This is an IRS requirement that relates to taxable income and it does not alter the compensation for Fr Tom.
The Rev’s Robert and Martha Horn will be invited to bring a Healing Mission to The Church of the Epiphany on December 9-10, 2011. They are a part of Victorious Ministries Through Christ, vmtc.org, and are familiar to our congregation.
Our current delegates to the Diocesan Convention are Janice Brady and JoAnne Riley. Our alternates are Chester Field and Mary Warner, who will be voted on to be our additional delegates, for a total of four. Gene Scarborough and John Vergere will be voted on to be our alternate delegates if one of our regular delegates is unable to attend the convention. The next scheduled convention of the Diocese is March 9-10, 2012 at the Cathedral in Charleston.
Following the procedure in Article XII of our By-Laws, we propose to change Article VI, Section 2 to read ‘second Thursday’ instead of ‘third Monday’. We will vote on this change at our December meeting and then forward the change to the Bishop’s office for final approval.
John Vergere suggested that we allow a certain sum of money to be set aside for the purchase of new flags for public display, and to change the flags before they become tattered. Robert Shingler said he would buy the first set and John Vergere said he would buy the next set. These flags fly in front of the Ministry Center and the Rectory.
John Vergere informed us that Harriett Little will be updating the ECW page on our website and that she will provide various links to the ECW projects and cookbook sales.
We then joined hands and prayed the Lord’s Prayer and adjourned at 8:00pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Vestry, The Church of the Epiphany
