Vestry Minutes
May 10, 2012
Gene opened our meeting with prayer at 7:00 p.m. Holly was not present for the devotion so Bob Shingler read one about not being in a hurry. Some testimonies were shared.
The minutes were approved as written on a motion made by Jerry Dufresne and seconded by Gene Scarborough.
The Treasurer’s report, given by JoAnn Riley, was approved on a motion made by Gene Scarborough and seconded by Rita Lupton. JoAnn then passed out a summary with recommendations from the training for Treasurers she attended on May 4th at St. Paul’s in Summerville. Bob asked everyone to take it home, look at it and come back to next month’s meetings with questions and comments.
Old Business
Jerry Dufresne reported that plans are in full swing for the Golf tournament, which will be held on June 23rd. Letters to sponsors have been sent out all past sponsors. He reported the committee would visit the people who did not respond together so nobody would feel uncomfortable. He then made a motion, seconded by Bob Shingler, to do a car wash on June 2nd at the church to add funds for this tournament. The ladies from Hebron Grace Home will help wash the cars. It was approved.
John Vergere reported the sign for the front of the church is done and he will pick it up when he gets a chance. The bill will be sent to JoAnn – no amount is known.
Connie Barnes then reported that she had gotten the 911 information printed and posted by all doors in the church buildings. Bob Shingler thanked her for being so prompt about getting this done. Several people stated they had noticed them right away.
New Business
Jerry brought some termite damage in the back Sunday school class room to Bob’s attention. They have looked at it and it is not active. John will call Terminex and check on the contract and see what we can do to get the damage repaired.
As suggested by Fr. Tom last month, Bob asked for opinions on Fr. Tom’s first year’s progress report since he was on vacation. Several people said they had been asked when the song “God Bless America” was going to be brought back to the service. Bob said he would make a recommendation to Fr. Tom to bring it back to the service. Several positive comments were made about the helpfulness of Fr. Tom’s business side being very helpful to the church and vestry. There was also strong approval of the Bible studies and the education on the Book of Common prayer. The Quiet day was also a good and appreciated activity. Rita asked if we could possibly have a contemporary service once a month.
Connie then recommended we start doing more things in the community to make known what Church of the Epiphany is doing for the community, i.e. Grace Home, Kairos, etc. She suggested that we have a booth in the upcoming festival in the Eutawville festival in June. She said she would bake some cookies and someone else could bring tea or lemonade and pass the cookies out. Bob Shingler then stated the same thing should be done concerning the Relay for Life Walk that is held in Harleyville. Discussion ensued and Connie suggested this information be given to Holly to follow through with. Connie then suggested that we hold a Bring a Friend to church Sunday again soon. We have not done that in several years.
We then joined hands and prayed the Lord’s Prayer and adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
