Vestry Meeting December 13,2012
Attendance:
Father Tom Hendrickson, Rector
Vestry: Robert Shingler, Chester Field, Rita Lupton, John Vergere, Jerry Dufresnse, Holly Kirby, Jerry Thompson, Connie Barnes, GS.
Treasurer Joann Riley and Assistant Treasurer, Barbara Spearin.
Opening Prayer: At 6:57 pm by Father Tom Hendrickson.

Minutes of November 2012 meeting reviewed. Chester made the motion to approve and Jerry D 2nd the motion. Approved as presented.
Treasurer's Report presented by JoAnn Riley. As of November 30, income is behind and expenses are ahead so we have a negative balance. Need to pay insurance company and that will set accounts into negative balance. Assistant Treasurer Barbara Spearin to contact company and see if we can pay quarterly. If insurance company does not allow us to do so we will tap the Reserve Fund.
Holly made a motion to approve the report as presented. Chester 2nd. Approved.
Father Tom said that Joann would like to move to Assistant Treasurer and have Barbara become Treasurer. John made a motion to make Barbara Treasurer and Joann Assistant. Jerry D 2nd. Approved.
Father Tom. Endowment. Fred Lupton. Mr. Wiggington is new adviser. Wells Fargo advisers. Robert made a motion. Chester 2nd. Approved.
2013 Budget. Father Tom proposal. Explanations. Income vs expenses. $125k budget proposed.
Income: Pledges and Plate. Rental Income. Investment income.
Expenses: People (Father Tom, John, Leigh, Cleaning), Programs (Diocesan Pledge), Building and Grounds, Church Office (paper, phone, copier, internet).
$14,500 to endowment. Fred L et al will work that out. Can put into Reserve if needed.
Father Tom proposed a salary adjustment to $30k as he can defer $23k to 403-B. Would like the remainder in a $7k Housing allowance. Would like 100% health insurance covered by Epiphany. Epiphany presently now covering 90%.
Chester made a motion for the budget proposed. Robert 2nd. Approved.
Jerry D made a motion to accept Father Tom's salary proposal. Rita 2nd. Approved.
Potential Vestry: We need 3 as 3 current members leave as of 12/31/12: Robert Shingler, Holly Kirby, and Jerry Thompson.
Carolyn Reynolds and Al Goodman have been contacted and/or offered to serve.
Also, Chester will resign from Vestry effective 12/31/12. Vestry will need to find a person to fill his position.
Chester will also resign as Chairman of the Churchyard Committee as well. GS to fill that position.
Potential Delegates to Convention:
Cindy Field and Terry Hendrickson have expressed interest.
John V and Gene S were alternates this year so move up to 1st year delegate status.
Alternates serve one year and Delegates serve 2 years.
Resolution of support for Bishop Lawrence as prepared by Father Tom.
Chester made the motion. Holly 2nd. Approved unanimously with no abstentions.
Father Tom showed the Vestry a Summary of Real Estate for The Church of the Epiphany. Prepared by Ron Nester, Attorney at Law, Santee. We have filed for a Quit Claim deed from the Diocese of SC so that we will own our property. Epiphany has 3 pieces of property.
Deacon Mike. Priest and Deacon agreement. Prison Ministry is his focus. Will be doing sermons quarterly. Will coordinate visitations. Has a seat and voice, but no vote, at Vestry meetings. Interpret to the church the needs of the world and the needs of the world to the church. Needs a discretionary account for expenses. Joann has already set up. Deacon is reimbursed for travel expenses.
Joann. No notice of contracts in new budget. Father Tom: cancelled Mary Howell's contract for cleaning the church. Bill and Skip Rodenberg will clean church, Ministry Center, and Rectory. John V will take care of the Outreach Center.
ParishHouse. Property insurance is $1726/year. IF we get the annual rent, we get $2,400. Right now rent is in arrears. Church needs to explore all aspects of owing the ParishHouse (as well as other properties). Rent/Sell?
Schimpf House will be rented for $400/month (plus utilities) starting in March 2013 by parishoners of the Church of Epiphany.
Jerry D. noted the need to find a replacement for Vicki S (Clerk to the Vestry) as she will resign effective 12/31/12. Parish will be asked at this Sunday's Annual Parish Meeting.
Robert S.: ? about Father John Scott's portrait being removed from Library. He has been contacted by email, phone, and personally by members of the church wanting to know where is the picture, why was it removed, and wanting the picture back up. Robert says that they would also like a plaque under the picture stating that it was Father John who was instrumental in having the Ministry Center built.
Father Tom handed out thank you gifts to all serving.
Robert S stated that, if he is nominated to serve on the vestry again (for 2013), he is unwilling to serve. He needs some time off.
Holly also says that she would not like to serve again as she also needs a break from service.
Father Tom closed us in prayer and then entire Vestry prayed the Lord's prayer.
