The Historic Church of the Epiphany Vestry Meeting April 11, 2013 7 PM
Present: Father Tom Hendrickson, John Vergere, Jerry Dufresne, Bill Dale, Carolyn Reynolds, Judy Rickenbacker, GS
Not present: Connie Barnes, Rita Lupton, Sandra Matthews
Opening Prayer: Father Tom Hendrickson.
Devotional: Jerry Dufresne. Our Daily Bread. "God Never Gives Up On Us".
Approval of March Minutes: Jerry Dufresne made motion. John Vergere 2nd. Approved as presented.
Treasurer's Report: Barbara Spearin. March 31. Building and Grounds. Insurance paid for the year. That account will balance over the year. Diocese will not require quarterly reports. Still have to do annual Audit Report. Barbara Spearin will get Audit Committee together. Changes to Offering Envelopes. For $27.50, envelopes can be changed. 55 people have boxes. Cost $3.31/box. Discussion on whether or not we need envelopes. Generic envelopes will be ordered. Gene Scarborough made motion. Jerry Dufresne 2nd. Approved as presented.
Endowment Report: $11,000. ?How much liquid? There is no current draw from the Endowment. Explanation of funds and very brief history. The $11,000 is in the local bank. Churchyard has $3,800 in account. Father Tom would like to take $2,000 from Churchyard and $9,000 from Endowment. Epiphany has one checking account with all funds co-mingled (total balance at/near $107,000). John Vergere made a motion to move ALL Endowment Funds into the investment account. Carolyn Reynolds 2nd. Approved. Epiphany still has $90,000 in the checking account. More discussion on financials. Endowment Committee will meet in the next 10 - 14 days with John Vergere and Judy Rickenbacker to discuss options with Epiphany's funds.
OLD Business:
Father Tom: Received from the State of SC Secretary of State. The Historic Church of the Epiphany of St. John's Parish. Operate a Christian Church. Vestry is responsible.
Jerry Dufresene: Golf Outing organizational met on Monday night. Was a very good meeting. Tim Dufresne is chairman. Bilton Ford will sponsor car for hole in one.
Father Tom: Tea Room is, again, in arrears. Electric bill past due as is rent. Total due is $1200. Discussion regarding purpose/stewardship. Father Tom will talk with Linda and Mike about a time line to close up their business. Vestry recommends that they are out by September 1.
Father Tom: Property Use/Stewardship of resources: 9 acres and 6 buildings. Schimpf House is rented. Look at options for opportunities to use the property. Homeless shelter. Senior Center. Widow shelter. Halfway House. What to do with the property to grow God's Kingdom? Vestry/Church needs to be intentional.
Church Island Cleanup, Saturday April 13 : Sons of the Confederate Veterans to assist. Decision to have the service will be made on Satruday.
NEW Business:
Portion of the Legal Fees for the Diocese is $492. Father Tom approved. Vestry concurs.
Eutawville Village festival: July 5 and July 6. Bronze ad level at $100. Jerry Dufresne made the motion. Carolyn Reynolds 2nd. Approved.
1st weekend in May. Father Tom will be at Kairos.
2nd and 3rd weekends Father Tom will be on a cruise with Terry to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
Jean DeVaty will serve while Father Tom is gone. She is a priest in our Diocese. Graduate of Trinity School of Ministry. Chaplain to DoK.
Faith Alive weekend: Father Tom would like to host. GS received application and will review and seek others to lead the various committees. Fall 2013 dates.
